Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS)/Doppler Broadening Spectroscopy (DBS)

Equipment: Positron Probe Micro-Analyzer

Working Principle

Some of the implanted positrons form positronium atoms which seek out pores where they are confined and generate whenever they bounce back from the walls. Therefore, the lifetime of the positron can be used to determine the pore size of the sample.

Technical Information

  • Defect density in crystal structure
  • Trap states in material
  • Detect distribution and types of defects
  • Can be used on crystals, metals, III-V semiconductors, polymers and biological systems
